About
The team behind Orbit OS
Orbit OS is developed by ZeroOneTech, a technology company based in San Jose, California, USA.
Why we built it
Every embedded Linux product needs the same foundations: hardware access, a way to run and update applications, remote deployment, security. Teams rebuild that layer again and again, and it is rarely what makes their product different.
Orbit OS is that layer, built once. It is also the technology we use to build our own embedded products, so every product we ship makes the platform better for everyone who uses it.
What Orbit OS is
- Orbit OS runs on the device, on top of Linux. It runs and isolates applications and gives them one API for the hardware.
- SDKs and tools — Go, Java and Python SDKs and the Orbit Studio extension for VS Code — are what you build applications with.
- Orbit OS Cloud Services — the Store, over-the-air updates, mobile notifications and remote access — are optional. A device keeps working without them.

License
- The Orbit OS Community Edition is free, for any use and on any number of devices, including commercial products.
- The SDKs are open source under the Apache-2.0 license — see github.com/OrbitOS-org.
- Orbit OS itself is not open source.
- Each app we publish states its own license in its repository.
The full terms are in the Community Edition License.
